Celebrating Madras Week: A City That Will Leave Your Soul Nourished

When you think of Chennai, the picture of beautiful scenery, the palm trees, the coconut trees, and all things beautiful and peaceful. Chennai is the capital city of Tamil Nadu and it is the biggest cultural, economical and educational spot in South India. Today, Chennai stands tall for a variety of reasons. Education, healthcare, IT, history, tourism, auto industries, movies, etc. The city is not only the most visited tourist spot by Indian tourists but also the foreigners.


And Madras, that is Chennai is celebrating its 379th birthday this week. The southern city will celebrate Madras Week by dedicating seven days to the history, culture and traditions of the city. The founding day of Madras is August 22, 1639. It was on that day, in that year, that a sliver of land, where Fort. St. George stands today, was transacted by the East India Company.


In 2018, MADRAS WEEK will be celebrated from August 19 to 26, 2018. MADRAS DAY, as always, is August 22.


The organising committee of the Madras Week 2018 is inviting individuals, groups and institutions to be a part of the event, to be held in August. This year, city hotels will once again be enthusiastic participants. Some will be venues for talks, while others will host art and photographic exhibitions, besides organising other festivals.
